Greetings All,

To celebrate the release of Studio Ghibli's latest film Tales From Earthsea, Anime MQ would like to organise a screening of the film for Members and fans/enthusiasts alike at a discounted rate. This is a rare oppurtunity since the Sydney season is incredibly short (May 17th - 27th) and exclusive to Dendy Newtown cinemas. Afterwards the film moves on to Melbourne and you won't be able to see it (legally) until it is released on DVD many months later.

The purpose of this thread is currently to gauge interest and see what times people are availiable. If you are interested in joining us, post in this thread or email me (Ray) at animemq.requests@gmail.com with your name and details. If you do both please tell me your forum name so I don't count you twice. Also vote for the days you would be happy to go. Edit: If you do email me make sure you put Earthsea in the Subject line so can count you properly.

Depending on the numbers interested we have two options:
Option 1 -
If we can gather more than 20 participants then we can get the best discount at $9 concession and $11 for adults.
Option 2 -
If we don't get enough we can organise a bulk purchase of concession ticket vouchers which we will sell to participants at $9.90 each.

The normal price is $10.50 for concession and $15 for adults.
With the first option participants will pay on the night at the cinema and have to present concession ID. With the second second option, the vouchers are prepaid upfront to AnimeMQ (at cost) and are valid for any session at Dendy Newtown cinemas before their expiry date. We will still organise a group outing for those interested if we go with option 2. Option 2 is also limited to groups of 10. The vouchers will be allocated on a first come first serve basis and will not be sold until a suitable number of people have registered.

We plan to go to an evening session of Tales From Earthsea on one of the days listed in the poll. While we won't know the exact session time until about a week before the screening time, it should start between 1830 and 1900. Depending on dates and other factors, we will be organising a number of different transport arrangements. Nevertheless Dendy Cinema is a short 100m walk from Newtown train station and also provides free (with validation I believe) parking for cinema patrons. Stay tuned for details on carpools, convoys, group marches, public transport junkets and the like once dates and numbers are clearer.

For more details on Tales from Earthsea see the Madman website -

For more Details on Dendy Newtown Cinemas see their website -
http://www.dendy.com.au/sessions.asp?Cin_ID=15

Edit: Also here is the discussion thread on this forum -

http://www.animesydney.org/forum/index.php?topic=4771.0

Even if you think there are problems but are still interested in coming post or email me anyway. We may do both options if we get enough people and like I said the vouchers would be valid for any session at Dendy Newtown if you wanted to see Tales from Earthsea in your own time.

The poll will be open for the next 14 days. please vote for all the days you can come.

Thanks for replying guys. The evening session is more important for weekdays. Roughly the Movie would start around 6:30 -7:00 pm. We could possibly see a matinee on Saturday (or Sunday) if more people wanted it. It's a multi vote poll so vote for all the days you can come.

If you can't make it, then you can also put your name down if your a student, since if we can get enough people (groups of ten) a discount, of $9.90, compared to $10.50.

Hey! You can use that to make a phonecall afterwoods to say how good the movie was! XD

Hey Ray,
Qem has asked us in having a joint event with SUAnime and AnimeMQ, which of course would be fine since we're so close to the theatre anyway and we were organising an event to go see it too. As for dates, we're not too sure yet as it's still on planning stages for us and we don't have anything concrete yet however we might be leaning towards friday night since ppl will be at uni for us.

The main reason we want the joint event is we need the numbers to get the group screening price. the poll has friday 25th coming second and i think most of the people who replied are good for friday. We were also thinking of doing both a group screening and a round of discount ticket vouchers if we got enough people who couldnt make it to the screening but still wanted to see it. Email me if you have any concerns or queries

There are some votes coming in by email as well, just so people should know.

So please vote if there are days that suit you better or let us know what days you just can't make it.

I can guarantee if it's on a weekday it would be their evening session, which starts at sometime between 6:30-7pm.
