So what did people think???
i enjoyed it...i wasn't impressed with the mistakes/extra words/interpretive text in the sub titles...cept i suppose you just get that depending on who does subs. Undecided
i have to admit though, i've liked other studio ghibli movies more...it needed more dragon dammit!!! MORE DRAGON I TELL YOU! Tongue

He reminded me of the Count in Petshop of Horrors... very androgynous  XD

I thought it was a pretty solid movie. Not bad for a first effort, but they attempted to cram too much (most of the 3rd book, a big chuck of the 1st, a mention of the 2nd and I don't know how much of the 4th because I haven't read it)  into too little time, which meant they had to skip a lot of explanation which would have been helpful.

*^ gasp!!!! Ayanami display pic!!!  Love :O*
anyways

well....it fitted in one of my favorite genre's...which is kickass mages who fight with cool incantations.
I thought overall the movie was very nicely done....but as everyone else said...more dragons would've been good....they came out for 3 minutes at the beginning...and no more dragons until the very end for about 10 seconds....

the subbing was also a little meh...but that doesnt rerally matter.

the biggest thing about it (for me) was that it was a bit hard to understand what's going on especially at the end for people who have no background knowledge~

It'll never beat movies like Laputa or Naussicaa~

LOL... *bows*

I just remembered... this is the 30th anniversary of Star Wars... Cob putting the "heart grasp" on Hare reminds me of Vader and Admiral Motti:
"I find your lack of faith... disturbing."

and.. I could have sworn Cob is a woman! >< !!!

haha..i KNOW! and what was with the cone shaped head? and he was wearing a dress and slippers ze whole time!!! if you're going to have a bishounen-esque character at least make them look good dammit!  Angry

and i agree with Ameno...not knowing the original tale made it a bit 'say what now?' at some points in the plot...

if only they would remake 4/5/6 Sad

Guardian are you serious? you think they should remake star wars 4/5/6??!! OH NOES! they were the better ones! (despite inferior special effects) i didn't like 1/2/3 so much  Sad bad scripts...and silly annoying characters..and such.

psht, im serious
4/5/6 were done with like, $0 basically, and actors/special effects (perhaps even script) was not all that imo :p
remake with all special effects would be mad

but no more on this topic :p lets not kill this thread and its subject etc

I didn't mind the movie that much, it was funny when half the audience laughed (those exposed to large amounts of anime I am assuming) at times when technically it wasn't funny lol.

you have to put things into context of the earth sea books and the studio, I was on the look out the from the start for the Grandmother that seems to shapeshift into every single movie, BUT this time she didn't turn out to be good at the end she died :/. So if the movies are thus far hiding the subtext of the relationship between the director and his grandmother, then the son of the director might be showing his perspective where he only saw the grand mother in her dying years and didn't know her well enough to see her good side underneath the bitterness she had because she was dying.

I could move on to the psychoanalytical perspective but that has already made the other execs think I am strange due to the conversation we had after the movie lol.

Hi; do you have any references for this?

Miyazaki Hayao's relationship with his own mother is fairly well documented, butI haven't heard much about his grandmother.

I hadnt read the books so i think i was missing out on a lot, but otherwise it was allright.
But that kid had one of the most amusing pick up lines ever:
"I killed my father"
