The AnimeUNSW Shirt Design Competition Bonanza Super Friends!
Our resident artist needs a break from constantly designing paraphernalia for AnimeUNSW, so we’re letting the guy rest during the winter break and ask YOU to design a shirt for us!

This is a great way to expose yourself as an artist as well as win neat goodies and have a load of fun! Attached is also an example of last year's sellout shirt, themed "fangirl".

Entries close July 22nd and should be sent to sidneylien@gmail.com or monkisama@hotmail.com. Any queries can also be sent to either addresses.

Competition Terms

• No shadings and preferably one colour, a maximum of three colours (including outlining) is allowed.
• The theme of the design can fall under, but not restricted to, one of the following themes (i.e. they are guidelines if you can’t think of anything, but it’s still totally cool!):
  “Surprise Your Friends. Burn their house down!”
  “Dead Musicians Decompose”
  “Imaginary Friend for Hire”
  “Zombies taste like chicken!”
  “When life gets slow, click refresh!”
  “Weirdo of the Month”
  “A small child in China made me this shirt”
  “Reality is just a Theory”
  “Weapon of Sass Destruction”
• It will be judged on the following criteria:
  Creativity
  Aesthetics, and the design’s relevance to being on a shirt
• The file format must be vectorised in .PSD, .EPS or .PSD file. This is so the quality of the design isn’t compromised when it’s resized for printing on the shirts.
• By submitting your artwork to AnimeUNSW, you give full permission to AnimeUNSW to use it for promotional purposes.

Prizes
The winner will receive:
A lovely certificate
The shirt with their awesome design printed on them in your size!
An art kit containing lined manga paper, niko pens and more!
An AnimeUNSW stress dice and dogtag!

One runner-up will receive:
A lovely certificate

No, not wet t-shirt competition people.
The powers that be have felt it appropriate/necessary to hold a Design a T-Shirt Competition since they don't seem to trust their art coordinator (me) or whatever.

So we're holding a design a shirt competition as a result!
Idea behind this is that we're not looking for 100% skill but instead we're looking for creativity and originality.
You're restricted to using 3 colours the design should be a design, not an illustration.
There's a big difference and that will decide who wins I guess.
Basically don't design something that you aren't willing to wear with pride.

Winner will recieve a free shirt for themselves as well as an art kit for their troubles. Art kit includes lined manga paper, niko pens and such and such. (we say such and such because we're still scrambling through our piles of junk to see what else we can add on j/k)

So with the exams almost over and with free time approaching, let's start designing! :3
Closing date is at the end of July.

Do you want a proper design, or would just a good quote do? I might be able to come up with the latter. Or maybe you could have a design on the front and a quote on the back.... Wow, I'm almost being creative!

Well if the quote is hilarious or extremely witty then do send it in and we might be able to work a design around it or use it for a badge instead.

Just noting that we're doing stuff like this and other fundraising for the club's 10th year anniversary party.
Since VSU has kicked in, we've been required to raise some side money to ensure that the club keeps running at optimal efficiency :3

Thanks Sid for being prompt on this.

Within the next 2-3 days, there will be a set list of rules out for it and information, etc. So keep it in mind for now, and it won't be long until it comes out And Sid, remind me next time online about these rules because I have them ready, just need your ok and some additions and all.

And we DO trust you, you BUM. But we look after all our lovely executives and give them a break whenever we can

It's really hard to tell, what with my sig and all leadnig you in the totally wrong direction. Dammit, it's friday and I'm still sober! I gotta find some friends or some anime or both.
Still trying to think of quotes that would be widely accepted, but I usually end up relating anime to being drunk.

Edit: That was easy - party at a friends. See you when I'm sober again, and full of ideas for quotes.

Btw, the design can be for both front and back, right?

And by 'no shading', do you mean lineart only? Or Can I still use those manga gradients?

Do you know anyone who can kinda... let you use their scanner? Where do you live? Maybe we can dispatch an exec with a scanner!

Haha, it's my bad for not making the terms clear enough. Some things I did not consider.

We are very flexible with how you envision the shirt. If your idea incorporates both the front and back, go for it! However, we are slightly leaning towards just a front design, and if a winner does happen to use a front and back design, we may have to drop the back design. This is by no means personal; we do have a pretty tight shirt printing budget and we hope you understand ;_; However, this should not discourage you from trying to convince us that the back design is needed!

We can only accept lineart unfortunately. What do you mean by manga gradients? Maybe Sid can help me answer that >.<!

Oh yah.... You don't know who this is.... I'll give you a clue. I will most likely be seeing you and Sid on Sunday night.... For dinner!

The pic I drew, was based loosely on Sid's Animania 2004 design with the comic panels.... and something extra on the back. Basically, I used your (or Sid's) “When life gets slow, click refresh!” quote with 'When life gets slow" in the front and 'click fresh' at the back. And images to support it, of course. =3

But I can redo it on tablet tonight, and try combining the front with the back.... somehow. Don't worry. I'll find a way around this problem soon.

Please don't expect anything extravagant! This was just something I did this morning after recieving your email. I thought I needed to contribute to the club, even if it's just sketching.

Also note that we're doing this as a money raising thing for the club, with vsu now in place and the cost of events constantly on the raise the club (and this is by no means restricted to just us) has had to find other avenues to raise money, so by submitting your design you also give us the right to make modifications to the design since we really do need to ensure that it sells. Its not a stab at anyone's artistic ability, just a note that this competition is to gather the best ideas and concepts, not the best visual design.
So you can have absolutely no skill in drawing or design, but if the idea is good then we can get someone to up the quality of the layout while still retaining the core ideas behind your entry.
