Hey,
I read in the rules for animania that props/ fake wepons do get taken away if the people believe the wepons could be dangerous.[So i assume that goes for all or at least most of other cosplay conventions].
SO i have a question, if people would like help me out with;
Q. When making fake amour, swords and/or Shields what material(s) would you suggest for me to make it out of. I was wondering, considering i'd like to make it realitively light but still keep the realistic look about it. [&& not easily broken] that will be allowed in conventions.
P.s, if this post is in the wrong section, i apologise, i am a n00b and couldn't see anywhere else for this subject to be relevent

I'm not sure about materials (maybe some kind of foam? :p), but I'm fairly sure that you could store certain items (such as weapons/props) in the cloak rooms provided at Animania. I know that items over certain sizes must be stored in the cloak room, but I'm not sure if "dangerous" weapons are even accepted there.

LOL. yea my signature was huge before, i was looking for a new one. && now found one =D
Yea. i heard they do take away your wepons, but i geuss, as Sleet said its only when they are over sized.
Foam, hmm. That might work! I was also told about Fiberglass. That might work. But i heard it was complicated D:

Careful with fibreglass cuts. :/ I wanna make a sword-like thing next year too. Probably gonna see if I can get some long woodpieces and stick together.. Problem with getting chunks of wood is need tools. My dad isn't the handyman kind of we don't have those funky ones like those in instructables.com (how to make a bokken, I think) describe.

Balsa wood is pretty easy to work with. Mind you, it's also quite light and fragile, so don't go smacking things with it.

Is it easy to work with with..like..a penknife? Cos I think that may be the limit of what I have when it comes to tools..

Oh yeah, I got another idea - try using plasticard. Should be available in large quantities from good hobby shops, and easily worked with using a hobby knife/boxcutter.

So what would be more suitable
Balsa Wood, or Plasicard!! Lol, Plasticard reminds me or Alucard >.> for obvious, yet silly reasons.
Anywho. i geuss i'll buy samples of the stuff and try them out to see which one is Stronger and hopefully easier to work with.
