The problem is we don't have a continuous history. ^.^;

I heard, that it was around for nearly ten years back in 2005;
I joined in 2004, and I was of the impression that it restartedin 2003 after being on hiatus for a year;
But Briony said it was around in 2002... So maybe it was only on hiatus for a semester?

I can try chasing up Michael to find out the details on the restarting part.

yup...what qem said,
i've been at mac since 2002 and thats when i first joined animemq...it had already been operating for at least a year or two back then even i think. However everything was on VHS..screenings for first semester were Trigun, Slam Dunk and Mobile Suit Gundam (That's right people, screenings were monday, wednesday, friday back then!)
There were even screenings in o-week for promotion...they had princess mononoke on a massive screen just outside the atrium and things...
i can't remember what happened semester 2, that must have been when things went on hiatus...they also sold off all their VHS stuff...(score! kinda...so old school)

Hi all,
actually as I recall animemq started in 1998 by a bunch of Comp sci/ IT/ media students who were fed up with the fact the union was taking their money (against the students wishes) and investing it into such things as the womens room, sub standard union food, an email/internet room (that had massive restrictions and a bandwidth comparable to dial up internet) and a whole lot of other services that  quite frankly none of us were ever going to use.

So we said, bugger it, if I am gonna fork out money for union fees we might as well try and get some of it back to buy some friggin anime.

Hence animemq was born.
Actually when we started the club we were really surprised at how supportive everyone was and the amount of ppl that actually turned up to screenings on a Friday night ( did ppl honestly have nothing better to do?? ^_^)
We showed some great subbed (and disturbingly dubbed) anime that we found from anywhere to start with . If anyone recalls a series called airbats *groans*
but we also showed some classics like the original Ninja scroll movie, Kenshin, the eva movies and some other series I can't remember.

The club went on for about 3 years and in those years but as we all graduated we decided that we needed to find a successor but alas in the alloted time we never found anyone who was wanting to head up the club. And so we decided to disban the club and move on into the real world. But THANKFULLY, there was someone who has managed to keep the club and so we are truly grateful(the original animemq members) that you have all kept this little club of ours alive!
Kudos to you guys

And the University has hated us since rofl, nah I am joking, well sorta. For some strange reason the Uni seems to not like us, but I think that they just generally dislike students... Victor Ma ended up getting caught for 'borrowing' money from the Student Union, and the Uni took the oportunity to take over and disband the union. AnimeMQ goes on, hopefully we have overcome the hiccups for the next 10 years Smiley

Waahh its one of the originals!!!! Smiley  i can't remember if I've met any of the original members.

Thank you for the weird SM yuri hentai that was passed down from 1999, and distributed in a loans library last year.  It was encouraging to see that Yaoi hasn't always dominated anime conventions in Australia.
