I should probably review a series that I didn't like. Or one I did like but really should have a low rating like Grenadier.

Grenaider, the series that breaks everything! History, physics, your brain, but is still bouncingly good fun.

To be honest the same could be said of Code Geass but it worked there.
It still hasn't removed my annoyance at rollerskating mecha.

With the armoured core series they tried to make the Mechas more realistic and discovered that fans aren't interested in Mechs that have realistic physics and limitations lol.

Armoured Core: Last Raven was the one I got, last on PS2 and I really enjoy it, there is a balance between reality and giant mecha highspeed combat. In Armored core, you can use your boosters on the ground to strafe at high speed. In Armored Core 3, in one battle it was beautiful lol, my ai co-pilot and I had similar mechs, and we destroyed the enemy in seconds. I watched the replay and we were in sync with our straffing and crossed over paths to switch enemies and ended up back to back, and the enemy exploded at the same time. I thought that the AI was incredible, but it ended up just being a massive epic fluke lol.

Armored Trooper Votoms - Pailsen Files, the mechas are more realistic, but still they can use 'rollerskates' on flat surfaces, though its not as bad as the ones in Code Geass, though I do like Code Geass. In Armored Trooper Votoms, its more like wheels on the bottom of the feet.

Gasaraki, the mechs are pretty realistic, but they botch the ending.

I've noticed in series Gundam00, Gasaraki, Armored Trooper Votoms, whilst the mechs vary in realism, they justify the performance to a degree with enhancements to the pilots, eg drugs, computer assisted steering etc.

In Code Geass, you jump in and know how to pilot lol.

I suppose it would be a supply and demand thing. If the fans demand fun, big and bouncy... rollerskating mecha then thats what producers will supply.

I like Gainax's crazy mecha, it looks awesome when they do it right.
