Game: Cave Story (Doukutsu Monogatari)
Year: 2004 (2005 English version)
Type: 2D Platform

Freeware rpg, thats similar to Megaman, Metroid and Castlevania games. I discovered it this year after hearing it was popular in 2007. The game has fairly retro graphics but the gameplay is surprisingly good. Over 4-6 hours of gameplay and there is replay value as there are secrets, hidden weapons and endings. Gameplay is relatively simple, but it is well polished and works. The characters are cute and funny, and the story is quite good. What tops it off it was produced by one man in Japan, which is pretty amazing given the quality.

Gameplay:
You are an android who has lost their memory and wake up in a cave... and thus it begins.

You collect power ups, and weapons, with a total of 9 weapons, though some are exclusive and you can only have 5 at a time max. you level your weapons from items from enemies and lose weapon exp when you are hit.

As of 20 minutes ago I have finished 99% of the game lol. The real final level is freaking crazy, first time I finished it, it took me 40 minutes, but now I have gotten down to just under 5 minutes for the time trial challenge.

Did I mention what is really great... ITS FREE lol.

Download:
Download the patch and the game and save the patch into the game directory OR search google for a patched version.
