is it just me or is the anime media infested with nothing but either man-fest or chick-fest...
im in for anything now... anything that has actual plot... without the ^^^... suggestion??

Vision of Escaflowne! It melds mecha and fantasy with a great plot and epicness. Infinite Ryvius is good sci-fi, sort of like Lord of the Flies in space. Flame of Recca is old but fun, more fantasy/shounen style though. Trigun is also awesome, if you haven't seen it yet xD

Well...there's Kiddy Grade and Mai-HiME (and the other series thereof)...
Also, I think Revolutionary Girl Utena is sorta sci-fi in places...ish...

well I don't watch Sci-fi stuff but why don't you try researching an anime that is a Sci-fi or read the manga online. It would be easier for you what you prefer. If I watch Sci-fi, then perhaps I would help you what would I recommend.
