The last one got way outta hand so I'll start a new one. From the looks of things, people want a WebComic
(see http://www.animesydney.org/forum/index.php/topic,5284.0.html). However, if numbers of entrants are quite high, it is possible to have this project printed and sold, though this is still under consideration.

Currently we have these following people confirmed for contributing:
1. Lawrence
2. Mallory
3. Danny
4. Turin
5. Rachel

The following have shown interest but I have not been given official notice that they are going to contribute:
1. Keen
2. Jeremy
3. Maho

Information regarding this project will be sent in the next set of mailouts, and will probably be put up on the main website's home page, which is also set for a new theme soon (sorry that I've delayed this for over a month). Also, information regarding whether this project will be printed will be posted in this thread when a final decision has been reached.
If you require further information, please either ask here in this thread or send a message to art@suanime.org
A new Poll has been set up so we can confirm what we are going to do for this project.

I'm keen to contribute, but depending on how grand you wanna make it - I may not guarantee my quality.

So you guys are actually gonna put one together for sale this year? But which one? There's two that's coming up as far as I know.

Either way have you guys got a dead line in mind? I don't know how easy it is to get stuff printed in Oz, but organising, editing, and having the materials printed and ready to sell can take quite some time.

If we are going to sell, we might not finish it in time for any conventions. I don't really want to put a deadline, as I prefer quality >> quantity.

You got the general idea there Smiley

Well, as it seems, probably not this year from the time given as said by Tatsuyoku~

To be honest, if you guys don't have a set date for things to be done it'll probably just become people going "mm yeah, was a bit busy this year I'll get it done in 2013".

That may be true...
In that case should I just say anytime before the end of semester?

I might suggest setting an actual date as it would help people stick to a deadline. Or an interim date where you expect people to have finish a certain stage of their works.

Also, it maybe worth your while to get the basic background to the book sorted. Set a framework early so people have a direction, then you're welcome to make adjustments along the way. This can save a lot of time and panic in the long run.

Basically anything you can think of and can't think off may go wrong, so if possible it's best to take care of as many things as you can think of.

Things that are worth discussing include:
1. Size of the book: If the book's gonna be thick, we may have to lift the price to cover for the printing costs. And if the price is high, it's less likely people will buy it. Plus you maybe spending a lot of time + effort into a 50 page masterpiece but not enough end up buying it. It's something you'll have to be prepared for. It's important that there is a workload that balances enjoyment + universities studies + outcome.

2. Color + paper quality: Again, the number of colored pages and the quality of paper we print on will affect the cost of making the books.

3. Contents: If you wanna sell it, you wanna give the people what they want. And what people want maybe different across cons. But whether we're doing a doujinshi or an original work, we want the contents clearly indicated on a colorful cover.

4. Who will do the editing: This is the crappiest job ever. Would someone like to volunteer?

I think we're not all that worried about selling. Smiley It's meant to be an incentive to submit, and a chance to be printed, if it happens. Which might not happen, if we don't have enough submissions.

However, we ARE considering publishing places, and I've been asking for probably about A5 size...half of A4?

SUAnime can always sponsor a bit of the cost if our members are enthusiastic and would like to be published. =) However, asking for enthu members might be a little hard..XD Still, I have hope!

Um, just a note before Lawrence comes in to say this, but maybe try not to spam his thread with one-liners? I believe he's worried new people who get here will get confused if there're pages of chatting. XD

Since JERI mentioned a solid date, and Lawrence hasn't replied, and I really have nothing better to say other than that one line, I shall crap more..how about 1st Nov? It's just before stuvac. Or if you want something after the dreaded E word, 1st Dec?

Yes, it's just random dates. Tongue

We're probably not worrying about book-or-not yet, at least not until we've seen all the submissions we get. If there aren't enough to make a book, might as well not bother. All the points JERI raised are, however, good points that we should keep in mind. Smiley How thick is 100gsm/280gsm? XD
