All this talk of dubbing just reminds me of the terrible dub given to Chou in Kenshin...Texan Southerner accent =/= Kansai...*shudder* Guess thats the closest they're ever going to differentiate when it comes to US dubbing..but still...The dub that pushed it for me and made me forever turn to listening in Jap. Dubbed anime are sometimes acceptable, but that could be dependent on whether you watched it first in dub. Usually ones like DBZ and other older series people watched dubbed first, so we tend to accept them. In any case, I'll watch dub for the kicks. Followed by some minor comment or complaint. Followed by more laughs. It's all good. *not that i watch any in particular.... only happened to have someone show me it... honestly*
Oh we all believe you Danny...we all know what sorts of things you watch...can't exactly call that 'hentai' so to speak...hehe

I normally switch off the sound when watching porn anyway, so dub or no dub it doesn't matter to me. :p

See the whole point of this thread is something I don't understand. Unless people actually speak japanese then how can you tell japanese audio with english subs is better? 'Oh but its because of their voice inflictions' Still how can one even understand the meaning behind them if you are just reading text on a screen? It doesn't make sense, the thing to me that is useful about subs is you have to wait for about 100 years before japanese cartoons come out in english. Other than that dare I say it dubs are better because they are simply more convenient. And give me Goku or Vegeta's voice (from Dragonball Kai) in dub anyday please.

The whole point is that while you may say that dubs are more convenient, which i agree partly, the only problem is English and Japanese are 2 very different languages, what can be portrayed in Jap is sometimes much harder to portray in english. most of the time they will end up sounding wierd. And there are ppl posting here who actually do know both languages.

aww but a lot of things are lost.... we may not understand it but im sure there are plenty of girls here who fangasm at the sound of certain seiyuu voices
When there's dubbing, guys tend to sound less sexy and girls tend to sound less cute.... imo they lose a lot of character
Well I'm sure a lot of ppl here have watched enough to understand some basic Japanese without having to read subs.
I'd rather subs any day xDD
Actually is there a dubbed voice for Chopper? I bet it's horrible ;___;

I guess in the minds of many people (me being one of them before), it was somewhat 'cool' to say that you watched anime with subs and that listening to dubs somehow lost effect whenever characters had mannerisms and when there were heaps of jokes that would get lost in translation. When listening to dubs, the voices would sound monotonous and boring, and as some have argued, dont match the personality of the character.
Also, it should be noted that when watching in Jap without much knowledge, you're basing it also on the fact that you dont understand the language entirely, and it just sounds 'cool' to listen to. By reading the subs, you just match the general meaning to how its delivered, and that creates i guess, enjoyment when watching in subs. Its like watching chinese movies with subs rather than dubs. The dubbing in movies tend to be hilariously bad, so yeh...it translates to anime as well.
If you do end up understanding jap and watch it, then you'll realise that there are differences between the two, and subs don't always get it right. And you'll also be able to critique the Jap audio as well, since its not always perfect. With DBZ, again, Goku's japanese is so out there that its quite funny just to listen to, and adds towards the character's personality. Overall, I do prefer Jap over dub, partially because i can understand it, but regardless, during the transition stage, I just blindly believed that dubs would sound 'funny' in a sense, when compared to its 'source' material. Added to the mystery of things. Not that i hate dubs, its all good to watch, and i get to laugh at it.
