Everyone i have spoken to prefers to have the English audio rather than the Japanese so i feel rather strange for prefering the Jap audio and having subtitles.

Am i alone?

You are not alone.  All fellow Britannians here cannot understand the primitive eleven speak so they watch it with proper, Britannian subs.  The dubbing by the EU are quite bad because they haven't been blessed by the great Emperor of Britannia.

woooah - who have you been talking to!?!?!

i mean, the first anime i watched (FMA) was in english (only version my friend had). havent watched a dub since because they suck hairy donkey balls (even though the FMA dub didnt seem bad at all)

EDIT: i DID actually watch an episode of cowboy bebop in english, because i was getting bored... but the show didnt improve any

I loled.

But I agree with Schmole. I thought the majority of the community watched with subs....after all, they ARE what's readily available. Unless you're a serial collector of DVDs, then they're as available as dubs. Honestly I stopped watching dubs after I heard some pretty bad ones. XD

Most of the more less casual crowd will watch with subs.
Theres a few series that had a decent english dub, but those are rare.

Anime is not a hobby, it's a religion.

The most of the anime community prefer their anime dubbed, just mainly with Area 11 dialect

In all honesty, the ONLY anime I've ever seen where the original Japanese sucked was Dragonball Z.
Every other anime stuffs up the voices if in English-_-. I mean, has anyone watched Kiddy Grade in English? It's horrendous ><

I feel so sorry for you >_<
Kannazuki no Miko is one of those anime (namely YURI XD ) that can't be watched with English voice actors. Firstly, the scripts are such that they're practically made with a Japanese voice actress already in mind. Secondly, there's usually a dominating/subservient relationship going on between the main characters, something that I have never even seen in an English film -_-

On that note, if anyone watches Strawberry Panic with English dubs instead of subs, I'll help them end their misery in any way they wish >.>

I know about 2 dozen people who follow anime, and ALL of them dislike dubs. Most of Asia's otaku community has a universal disdain for dubbed anime. Largely because a bulk of the dubs tend to be done by sub-par voice actors in the United States. The dialogue is awkward, the voices do not suit the characters, liberties are taken with the script, the acting is generally poor, and so on. Certain features integral to anime such as Japanese language nuances (i.e. Kenshin's unique speech in Rurouni Kenshin) or the idiosynchracies of the original voice actors (i.e. Lelouch in Code Geass) are either poorly carried over, or abandoned altogether.

Don't worry bout it...
subs are anytime better than subs...

Code geass (soso), Hellsing, X the animation and samurai X are quite good english dubs though...
[but i hate suzaku's CV in english he just simply sucks....]
