Has anybody read both the Shakugan no Shana manga and novels? If yes, could they recommend one or the other?

And I know the anime is better than both combined^^

Shana season 2 was total garbage.
I know -_-
But season one was awesomeness^^

EDIT: actually, season 2 wasn't terrible. It's just that after the standards set in season 1, season 2 seriously failed to meet expectations, except for a few episodes (namely the ones after Yuji does the Fuzetsu thing and they all go zomg)

I guess I have to recommend the Novel. I haven't read it yet but I know it has more story. And If Season 3 shows up and they didn't show the Snake of Festival, I'm going to put SNS to my top worst lol.

Yeah I read and watched the SNS anime and light novel (in Chinese, though)... The translation for SNS in English is quite slow so u might have to wait for a while.... the second season implemented some parts that are completely pointless (like that clone of Hecate) but I think it is all in all alright.
Spoiler (hover to show)

If my memories are correct the second season is up to the 16th novel, I doubt the third season will come out too soon.... probably when the novel finishes? (since the author did say he is finishing it around the 20th novel)

True that but
Spoiler (hover to show)

And it should finish on the 20th novel. Since its Shana and the new antagonist (see the spoiler) are going to fight. Unless if the author puts a happy ending on the 20th and full romance at 21st novel. If that's so, who would be Shana competitor be?

At first i was fine with it, until it got to a point where i was like "Sakai, grow a pair and choose one of them already!"

nah, school days is full of sex and bad romance... and scary scenes  (on the end) that you will never expect. SNS doesn't have anything like that...except for some ecchi on season 2
