D: well of course we can see this coming

alot of the credits u may notice some vietnamese and korean, even chinese names in there.

although it being a news article i notice many points its missing. Even if Animators themselves get crappy pay, its the management that squeeze it out of them and the ones profiting more. And its those people i don't want to give my money to.

I've ended up spending more on Anime stuff in this past year than i spend on anything else cause i actually make money now. but i dont buy dvd's. simply cause this "high quality" on crunchyroll and dvd's simply doesn't compare to fansubs. If i get the original region 1 dvd's, i don't currently have a great player for that to see on the plasma.

but in anycase, it shouldn't be a surprise how global economic crisis will end up affecting anime. it is afterall a part of the 3d world

... that didn't answer the question. Undecided

Anyways: 'trusty' ol wiki says: Third World is a categorical label used to describe states that are considered to be underdeveloped in terms of their economy or level of industrialization, globalization, standard of living, health, education or other criteria for 'advancements'

Ok, I've been to Vietnam and that is a third world .. but my notions of japan, Korea and even china aren't. Wiki says Japan and Korea are first world. ... should have looked it up rather than ask a question in which I had to answer by myself.  dead

china is often still seen as a third world country due to its western areas being largey just peasant farms.

I think we are allready seeing an effect with the closure of gonzo and the removal of many staff. As well as flagging dvd sales in Japan of anime.

Well technically Korea and China are in the phase between Third World and First World nations. The term most commonly used for this phase is NIC (Newly Industrialised Country), though it could be argued that Korea (and possibly to a lesser extent, China) are now fully fledged first world nations.

As far as Japan in concerned, it lands in a special place. Unlike most other countries, Japan's has not developed like other countries. Essentially, the majority of its infrastructure was destroyed during WWII and afterward the USA pledged large amounts of time and money into rapidly developing Japan. This saw them rise to the forefront of the world's economy as they rapidly became one of the technological powers of the world, particularly in the 70s and 80s. Then of course things started to slow down and reccession hit them quite hard. Since then, economically Japan has been in a weird position.

Note: We don't use the term Second World because it refers to nations that converted to capitalism after the fall of the USSR. As the terms were coined back then, it doesn't really make sense to use Second World when referring to the up and coming nations of today.

yes, and also the set JPY to USD rate of 360:1 back then helped alot of investment and so on

however, the discussion i actually wanted people's opinion on is, how do we help this downturn of anime industry? don't we love it enough to do something about it?

The anime industry is the probably the only entertainment industry where its own fans are killing it.

The anime industry is helping japan quite abit,
Taro Aso is pro-manga, well most people know it...

But you might also wan to think this....
why japan has so much anime???
simple...

-----> create employment for their own people... Japan such a populated country with so little area of land, has a high rate of unemployment.... In reality there are ALOT and indeed alot of people that wants to be Seiyuu but unfortunately lots of them get turn down too, those who are lucky mayb can get a place for a drama-CD, those are even more lucky can be seiyuu in an anime series....

also anime that is shipped out of japan has created quite some money to the japanese... well thats wat i think....

Didn’t know Japanese animators were so poor…
Damn you Osamu Tezuka. Damn you to Hell.
