SMASH!, the Sydney Manga and Anime Show is looking for passionate people willing to help fill committee positions in a number of key areas. Whether you're interested in design, marketing, stage events, general events or cosplay, we want you! No really, we do. Ramen and Karaoke parties can only carry us so far.

joinus@smash.org.auFrequently Asked QuestionsWhat positions are available?We're always on the lookout for new blood and fresh ideas, but sometimes there are particular positions we're looking to fill. For 2009 this includes Marketing, Public Relations, Art & Design, Volunteer Coordination, and the Management / Co-ordination of specific events (for example Competitions, Stage Events, Activities and Panels).
What type of people are you looking for?We're looking for anyone who's organised, enthusiastic and dedicated to their tasks. We like to have fun at SMASH!, but when the time comes to get stuck in to the serious business of organisation, we also need our committee members to be reliable. Organising a convention isn't a walk in the park, so please keep in mind you will need to set aside some time to help out.
What if I don't want that sort of responsibility but would still like to contribute?SMASH! is always in need of help on the day of the convention, so if you don't have the time to help out in the committee, this is the perfect way to lend a hand! Applications for volunteers will be conducted at a later date this year, so be sure to keep an eye out.
What benefits are there to being part of the committee? Do you get paid?SMASH! is a non-profit organisation, so Committee members don't get paid for their work. But we do have parties and a kick-ass Karaoke machine, so it's not all bad. Volunteering also gives you fabulous resume material! From meeting new people, to working in a team and being able to flex your organising skills and creative flair, SMASH! is a great organisation to be involved in.
I previously volunteered at SMASH, does this give me a higher chance of getting a committee positions?Yes; If you previously volunteered at SMASH!, it will make it easier to know what kind of person you are to work with. But all you really need to do is just show some common sense, passion for the work and that you're the person we're looking for, previous volunteer or not.
I haven't volunteered before at SMASH! or any other anime convention before. Will this affect my application?Nope. Experience isn't necessary, so long as you want to get stuck in and help out.
I haven't gotten a reply from my application yet!Oops, sorry about that. You'll definitely get a reply from us once we've had a chance to go through your application, though. Don't get too disappointed if you don't make it in this year; the spot might've been filled already (it gets a bit frantic).
If you still want to help out, then we'd really like to have you aboard later this year helping out on the day. Keep your eyes peeled; we'll send you something when we start looking for volunteers for this year.
