Is it just me? Or movie industries are like addicted to turning anime and video games into Live-Action?

I mean.. We've seen...

Street Fighter
Dragon Ball Evolution
DOA: the Movie
Super Mario Bros: The Movie
City Hunter

(I can't remember anymore... )

And later there's going to be

Cowboy Bebop
Akira
Ghost in the Shell
Zelda
Full Metal Panic

(Anyone other movies I've missed out?)

Guess they got sick of doing Marvel Comics now, huh?

But seriously.... What happened to the good-ole fashion movies that are created by directors nowadays?

Hmm well a lot of things get turned live action in Japan.

Maybe they're taking some of them as success stories
and following Japan's example xDDD

FMP and Cowboy Bebop?! You've gotta be kidding me...
A few years ago they were also discussing a live action Evangelion movie. Not sure what happened to that. They were going to change all the Japanese names to English ones and there was even speculation of casting Daniel Radcliffe as Shinji...or something like that.

I'm really not sure why people bother when most movie conversions of games/anime don't turn out to be very successful.

By the way, has anyone ever played the video game of Street Fighter: The Movie? Apparently it's the only game made from a movie made from a game ever to have existed (and probably with good reason).

I think a big problem behind the failure of making live action movies from games and anime is that directors are recreating a story instead of staying faithful to the original. I'm not really sure why they do it, but it seems more of an effort of adapting a story from a foreign nation for the locals thinking they won't be able to stomach the original.

If we are talking good movies that came out of the USA, I think the recent Iron Man, Batman, Spiderman movies are pretty well made because they stuck with what we love most about the heroes. But look at DB, Street Fighter, Transformers, they go on a tangent and end up being bad and embarrassing to the point where we cannot unsee them. Saban's "Power Rangers" and "Masked Rider" is a big example of this also.

Japan is king of Live Action films, particularly Tokusatsu, because of things like Gamera, Godzilla, Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Super Sentai. However, when Toei (THE Tokusatsu production company) made the Live Action/special effect Spiderman TV series in the 1970s, it was complete lols since they added in a giant robot for Spiderman to pilot, which clearly is NOT what Spiderman is about (granted, Bandai was the one that asked them to add in the giant robot Leopardon, because their original intention was to do a direct conversion from the comics, and that won't sell many toys). But movies like Devilman, 20th Century Boys, Casshern, Desu Note all shone brightly nationally and internationally. So even the kings of live action/special effect movies can make complete crap if they deviate from a known and tried formula.

animes turning into movies is a conspiracy created by teh movie industry as to experiment on what's good for movies and what's not so they can gather the critics of the many people on places like 4chan so they can, in the end, creaate the ULTIMATE movie as to begin the launch the beginning of the greatest story romancing has ever told in a chain of successful transition movies and we will never know it... ever...

i haerd at one point frodo guy was gunna play shinji for the eva movie @_@

Everyone says live-action fails but there's some really good jdrama & movies out there ;___;
Its much easier to turn into live action if the genre is a little more realistic
Half of the drama out there is probably adapted from anime/manga, the remaining are adapted from novels
Most involve romance and use idols as marketing tool
Damnit it works ~____~;;

I confess I ended up watching Mei-chan no shitsuji  *cough*

But I think when it involves superheroes, mecha or stuff that blows up
Then it can get lulzworthy

The reason movies don't have original stories is that it's cheeper to rip of something else and make a movie about it.. ~ don't need to make a new story / characters / scenes / ~ also ripping off means that you already have fans to give you money~
thats why there are so many book/comic/game/board-game etc. movies coming out..

Let's play a game : name as many recent movies you can that were written to make the film~ (not existing movies, sequals, stories, etc.)
(i guess maybe some comedies/romance etc.~ )

i agree, im sure there are many reasons why they would have to recreate the story to fit in with the constraints of that which is a movie. in regards to dbe, i reckon it wouldve made a good 80's highschoolish-flick with the soda bar gathering and the ice cream social's... like a karate-kid type movie... but then it wuld have to deviate too much from the original plot, and then all is lost in translation so to speak, which may or may not be a good thing.

omG i thought nodame cantabile live action was really really good, and had the advantage of seeing and hearing the live orchestra which was 5 thumbs up. honey and clover live-action didnt do it for me... it was good! but not better than the anime in this case, i loved the anime so much XD and i blame my high expectations for sometimes ruining wat couldve been a good movie experience... dbe being the exception, that was just funny hehehe

Not recent, but I think it's relevant:I'm pretty sure that "2001: A Space Oddyssey" was co-written as both book and screenplay at the same time, by Stanley Kubrick (Famous Director) and Arthur C. Clarke (Famous Sci-fi authour).

I'm not saying all live-action films fails. Just the recent ones done by Hollywood (eg. DOA and Dragonball Evolution). Japanese Live-action they do a decent job, like Nodame Cantabile and Lovely Complex. But to me with the way things are evolving... It's starting to make me sick. All these major live-action films rip from anime/games is becoming like a big trend. That's what I'm not happy about.

And like.. omg... Keanu Reaves as Spike Spiegel and Zack Effron as Sousuke Sagara??? Major FAIL!

Adaptions or originals, anything can work..
you just need good writers, directors and actors.....

big budget CG and explosions doesnt make a good film...

ooh daniel radcliffe as shinji ikari.... i've always wanted to see what an emo harry potter would look like!

but yeh, on the topic about live action films, Yomisegaru -Rescue Wings is releasing a live action, but the I suppose u can do it with that because it is a pretty normal anime.

And if the release a FMP live action, all of animeunsw are gonna watch it!!! EPIC!!! XD

I can imagine it now:

Full Metal Panic! starring:
Keanu Reeves as Sagura Souske
Some random chick as Chidori
Another random chick but hotter as Tesla
Jackie Chan as that old guy!

zomg.... it's gonna be full of win!!! XD
