The Story:
Once upon a time, in lands of forgotten lore, there was a little boy. This boy grew up fascinated by the TV and the images that appeared on it. Images of giant robots, of samurai dueling with swords, of school girls with the most colourful hair, of maids whose gender remained unknown, all these fueled this young boy's wild imagination. And yet, he was sad.

The boy's parents noticed their son's saddness. They said to themselves, "Why is he sad?", and being otaku themselves, they thought "Maybe he does not have enough anime!". So they went to their son, "Here! Have some more anime!" and gave him all the latest anime DVDs to watch. And yet, he was still sad. They said to themselves, "Why is he still sad?", and being otaku themselves, they thought "Maybe he does not have enough manga!". So they went to their son, "Here! Have some more manga!" and gave him entire series of manga to read. And yet, he was still sad. They said to themselves, "Why is he STILL sad?" and being otaku themselves, they thought "Maybe he does not have enough toys!". So they went to their son, "Here! Have some more merchandise!" and gave him all the figurines, accessories and costumes a boy could dream of. And yet, he was still sad.

And so every birthday, Christmas and other holiday they would shower gifts upon their son, but he was always sad.

Until one day, they decided to ask their son why he was so unhappy. The parents asked "Why are you so sad?". The little boy said "I have so much anime, so much manga, so much toys, but I have no one to share it with!". And so the parents invited all their friends, all their family and all their neighbours to come watch anime with them. And the boy was never sad again.

And, as they say, that is how the first anime club began. To remember this occassion, every year the various Anime Club's of Sydney join together for the Xmas Party. Come along and celebrate the end of exams and the festive season with other fans of anime! A splendid time is guaranteed for all!

FAQs

Q: What is the dress code?
A: Smart Casual/semi formal - no jeans, no sneakers.
Yes, the term Smart Casual is a misleading term (and quite broad in terms of what you can wear). Smart Casual actually requires most people (except the most fashion orientated) to "dress up", so its not really casual.

Q: What about tight pants?
A: Discouraged, unless you're a certain someone.*

Q: What does that mean for cosplay?
A: If you're cosplay falls within the Smart Casual, good for you. If not, don't do it.
Examples:
Spike Spiegel - Good.
Man-Faye - Bad.
Raito/Light in his suit kinda thing - Good.
L - ...No.

Q: Where is the The Civic Hotel?
A: The Civic Hotel at the corner of Goulburn St and Pitt St. Its across the road from World Square and about 10 min walk from Town Hall or Central station.

Q: Who killed Kaji?
A: Congratulations Shinji. No one cares.

Q: Is it at the Glasshouse Bar?
A: No. \o/

Q: Squirtle! I'm on fire!
A: That isn't even a question.

Q: Why isn't it at the Glasshouse Bar? I love the Glasshouse!
A: And may you burn in a fire hotter than the brightest star in the sky.

Q: I accidently the whole bottle.
A: Good for you.

Q: What is up with anime@uts hosting?
A: It is part of a tradition that has been going on for many generations. Every year, a different club hosts the Xmas Party and it just so happens to fall upon UTS this year.

Q: Which side is best to start eating a chocolate horn from?
A: From the good side.

Q: Vegeta, what is his power level?
A: ITS OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!

Q: Will there be foodz?
A: Finger food**.

Q: Will there be a bar tabz?
A: There will be one in some form.

*That someone is Steve.
**Not actually made of fingers.

Q: What events/competitions will you be running?
A: We haven't quite worked out all our events yet, but here's just a few:
  • Napkin Art Competition - Draw the best piece of art you can on a bar napkin!
  • Guess What's in the Stocking - Fondle the stock, guess what's in it!
  • Riddle Scavenger Hunt - We'll give you various riddles based around various objects around the venue. Take pictures of the objects and whoever gets the most or gets all first wins!
As for the prizes, we have various DVD from Siren Visual and gift vouchers from Madman.

Wow, I just realised that not only is there a Central Coast Mariners home game (football/soccer) on Talk Like A Pirate Day, but also this anime party on Stalk Like A Ninja Day. Shame about costumes being restricted at both events...

if you had interpreted sleets post after the first one correctly it can basically be summed up as this.

You can cosplay, as long as the cosplay falls under the dress code of smart casual/semi formal.

if you need any help with checking what falls under this category, just post here.

no this event is open to everyone. there is no difference in cost to the public, however presale tickets will only be purchaseable through the uni clubs(as we are running it).

however  please note that the event is an 18+ only function.
