Which karaoke venue should we hold our K events at?

Last year we kinda swapped K venues around a bit (so did other clubs it seems) and we have still yet to really settle for one. So lets open the floor and discuss the merits of the different karaoke places around!

K-World
K-World is the one on Elizabeth St near Town Hall. It used to be the traditional venue for pretty much every clubs' karaoke events, but due to certain incidents last year (involving fire bombs) and a general lowering of quality standards, we decided to try other places. I haven't been back there recently, so I can't really say if they've improved. I didn't have much problem with their song selection though.

Echo Point
They have the Joysound system, which is great for anyone who wants to sing Japanese songs and they offer an awesome 6-hour karaoke deal, but the rooms are really cramped and can get hot and stuffy. Which I guess would be a plus for some people who like getting hot and stuffy with others *cough*SeakasRandallWonk*cough*.

Mizuya
Just opened up on George St along with a restaurant. They have a deal for 2 hours of karaoke for free if you spend something like $20 on food at the restaurant. A couple of us went there the other day, and the service was really nice. Their song selection (for me anyway) was a tad disappointing, but I like old songs anyway. Its also a bonus that you don't have to walk far for the restaurant.

AUNSW (yeah, I'm a traitor Smiley ) has been going to SHOW and LIVE in the past year... Korean-type places which have a very limited English selection but are otherwise OK.

I think having Karaoke at Azeroth would be better because you don't have to hear people sing.

ZING!

But yeah, LIVE is pretty good.  They have a decent song selection and they give you extra time randomly.

There's Kmix along Pitt st. They do specials like 3hrs + free drink for $10/$15pp at a certain time (I think those bastards made it cheaper if you bring extra ppl in DX  First time it was just me and my 2 mates and I got charge for $15 and then when it was my friend's bday they cahrged $10)

They've got quite a selection of songs (not sure about music quality wise...) and they have "interesting" video clips *coughs coughs*

K-World hasn't changed at all. It's still the same, I went there last year after exams. So yeh... Still the same

Echo Point... >.>;;; The guys at the counter are seedy and will ONLY make deals if you're a girl (I went there just to check it out in my work clothes...)  =_=;;;

But yeh I like Live. It's got good quality of music collection and plus i believe it's cheaper than SHOW.

i'd say SHOW would be nice, doesn't smell like smoke like most of the other venues Wink

From a song-selection perspective, Echo Point is the best. And they have the cheapest price for 6h K!

Since I sing mostly Jap songs, I NEED the Joysound system (Monkey Majik/m-flo/Ken Hirai FTW!), though admittedly, their venue is physically a bit hit and miss (ie. you sometimes get shitty smelling rooms, and sometimes you get fine rooms). Therefore, it's only really recommended for people who prefer song selection to the point they can forgive shitty rooms. So probably not particularly good to be taking new members too?

Went to K-world last month; it doesn't seem they update their Japanese song selection anymore (they didn't have a latest songs list for Japanese songs, and their book went up until some point in 2008).

I also heard that Mizuya's system is the same as K-world? If true, then it's a pretty poor selection for Japanese songs.

SHOW is alright. From the last time I went, physically it's a good venue. It's got an amusing scoring system too lol. But song-wise, it was a little disappointing...

Surely the range of song choice isn't determined purely by the system?

from when we went there shortly after it opened, its not the same range of song choice, simply same software

Well system can be limiting in terms of song choice and updatability, though yes, it isn't the only factor in song range. For example, Joysound can be limited in its English selection due to being a Japanese system; but the fact that they also add some songs via popular vote, gives them a good potential range.

In what sense? Better/worse English/Jap? Lack of other languages?

ICIC... I only sing English anyway so I don't notice the range of JP/CN/KR/other... although I should try Mizuya just for the ambience at least. If the song choice is *no worse* than others, the location is at least pretty convenient!

less songs, but this was soon after they opened. i wouldnt be suprised if they catch up fairly quickly. however they seem to use some of the other machines aswell, like that small unit thing you can get at echo point (the one with the pen)

location is convenient, and less distance to go for dinner! Tongue its' a quality venue compared to most places. though it always seems you sacrifice singing conditions for range of songs

I'd like to see the song selection at Mizuya with the joysound system. It might make it superior.
