So I managed to be accepted into a Japanese exchange student thing and I don't really know where things are. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on where I should visit while I'm there? My host family is somewhere in Odawara. Some good shopping district would be cool aswell.

Odawara is mainly famous nowadays for its reasonable proximity to the Hakone area. This means Mt. Fuji and its surrounds.

Also, being on the main Tokaido line, you should be able to get to Yokohama and Tokyo without too much difficulty (althouth maybe not cheap).
